Appin 8hr enduro results provided by Castech and J-Chip. (22nd June 2009)

Although attracting low numbers due to persistent rain in Sydney and conflicting events calendar the Appin Working Week 8hr enduro was a great race. Riders enjoyed the challenges of the track with slippery muddy fire trails, steep and gnarly descents, fast flowing creek crossings and running gear suffering the usual effects of Sydney sand.

New to the Working Week series was the use of electronic timing, utilising J-Chip transponders provided by Castech Sports Technology. Riders were issues with transponders already attached to the number plate making it easy for them to prepare. There was no need for riders to worry about Velcro ankle straps, additional cable ties, or fancy attachment gizmos. Numberplate did turn out a little flimsy and were tearing if not attached firmly, but riders were impressed that the transponders were working from their bike pockets where they had stuffed torn plate and transponder.

Castech reported every J-Chip read recording perfectly and yet still they ran with backup timing with every plate number written down and CCTV recording every finish. They see it as obligatory for, if a rider is to put in 8hrs of effort Castech will do everything possible to ensure the results are correct.

Castech's web developers and testers were able to see the results page automatically updated within a few minutes of the rider crossing the line. Castech CEO Mark (Mouse) Allsop was generally happy with the performance of the web results and is looking to providing more public access by the next round at Awaba July 5th, 2009.

Castech team with J-Chip (12th, Oct, 2008)

J-Chip is proud to be partnering with Castech Sports Technology to provide transponder timing for the first time to the Australian Mountain Bike National Series. Castech has been provide high quality timing and results services to the Australian mountain biking community for more than 15 years. This has been an ever evolving service, with in recent years additional display boards, intermediate timing points and downhill speed trap being introduced to the MTBA events. Transponder timing for the cross country races is the logical next step.

The technology was introduced to the Pro Elite riders during the Scot Australian 24hr Championships in Canberra recently in a trial with 16 of the best riders in Australia. All riders commented on the introduction of the technology to the National Series as a very possitive step. Perren Delacore who's team GU SRAM Niterider took out the Pro Elite Team race said "It's good for the Australian scene to catch up with Swiss Cup, and other Euro races including the best competitions in the world".
